The Uppercase transformation in Nexadata Pipelines allows you to convert text in selected columns to uppercase. This transformation is essential when you want to standardize text formatting for consistency across your dataset, such as ensuring all employee status values, job titles, or department names are uniformly formatted in uppercase letters. You can configure the transformation using Natural Language Mode or Advanced Mode.

Inputs for the Uppercase Transformation

  1. Name of the Transformation: In Natural Language Mode, the transformation name is automatically generated, but you can update it later using Advanced Mode. For example, you might rename it to something like "Convert Department Names to Uppercase" or "Uppercase Employee Status".

  2. Columns to Transform: Select one or more text-based columns where you want to apply the uppercase transformation. Common examples include "Department_Name", "Employee_Status", or "Job_Title".

Using Natural Language Mode

In Natural Language Mode, you can describe the action you want to perform, and Nexadata will automatically generate the transformation. The transformation name will be auto-generated but can be refined later using Advanced Mode.

Example Instructions in Natural Language Mode

  • Convert all Employee Status values to uppercase.

  • Change all entries in the Department_Name column to uppercase.

  • Transform all Employee Position titles to uppercase.

  • Standardize the Employee Role column by converting all titles to uppercase.

  • Convert Employee Status descriptions to uppercase.

Note: If Natural Language Mode doesn’t capture your intent perfectly, you can switch to Advanced Mode to make adjustments.

Using Advanced Mode

In Advanced Mode, you have full control over the configuration of the Uppercase transformation. This allows you to manually select the columns and define the transformation behavior.

Steps in Advanced Mode

  1. Name of the Transformation: Enter a custom name, such as "Uppercase Department Names" or "Standardize Employee Titles".

  2. Columns to Transform: Select one or more columns where you want the text converted to uppercase, such as "Department_Name", "Employee_Status", or "Job_Title".

Advanced Mode provides more flexibility in how you configure the transformation, ensuring that the columns and data you target are handled precisely.

Example Use Case

The Uppercase transformation is frequently used to ensure uniform text formatting across records. For example, in a dataset containing "Employee_Status", you may want to convert all status values (e.g., "active", "inactive") to uppercase for consistency in reporting. For example:

  • Transformation Name: Uppercase Employee Status

  • Column to Transform: Employee_Status

This transformation ensures that every entry in the "Employee_Status" column is in uppercase, making the data consistent and easier to analyze.

Summary

The Uppercase transformation in Nexadata Pipelines is an effective tool for standardizing text data by converting values in selected columns to uppercase. Use Natural Language Mode for a quick setup or Advanced Mode for more control over the transformation. This transformation is ideal for tasks like ensuring uniform formatting across fields like department names, employee statuses, or job titles.
