Nexadata supports a configurable Zero Data Retention (ZDR) mode for enterprise customers with strict data residency and retention requirements. When ZDR mode is enabled, AI prompts submitted through the Copilot Suite and associated metadata are processed in-flight and immediately discarded. They are never written to persistent storage. This provides a clear, auditable path to deploy Nexadata in environments governed by data residency mandates, internal data handling policies, or regulatory frameworks that restrict the retention of user-generated content.
What Is Zero Data Retention Mode?
Zero Data Retention (ZDR) mode is a platform-level configuration that controls whether AI prompt content and metadata are persisted after use. In standard operation, this content may be retained to support features such as history, auditing, or session continuity. With ZDR mode enabled, this behavior is disabled. Prompts and metadata are used exclusively in-flight during the AI reasoning process and are not written to any persistent storage layer.
ZDR mode does not affect the deterministic execution layer of the Nexadata platform. Pipeline configurations, transformation logic, execution results, and audit records are unaffected by this setting.
How Platform-Level ZDR Works
When ZDR mode is active, the following behavior applies:
AI prompts submitted through the Copilot Suite are passed to the AI reasoning layer for in-flight processing only.
No prompt content or associated metadata is written to persistent storage at any point during or after the request.
Prompt content is not retained for session history, logging, or replay.
The processing pathway is fully auditable, allowing compliance teams to verify non-persistence as part of their review process.
This behavior is scoped to AI prompt content and metadata specifically. All other platform data -- including pipeline definitions, execution records, and output data -- follows standard retention policies unless separately configured.
Who Should Use ZDR Mode
ZDR mode is designed for enterprise customers operating in regulated industries where AI prompt content is subject to data residency rules, internal governance policies, or compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, GDPR, or SOC 2. If your organization requires assurance that AI prompt content and metadata are never written to disk, enabling ZDR mode provides the platform-level guarantee to support that requirement.
Enabling ZDR Mode
ZDR mode is configured in Nexadata Settings, accessible to administrators from the Setup menu. The Enable Zero Data Retention checkbox is located on the Edit page alongside your organization's Name and Slug.
To enable ZDR mode:
Navigate to Setup and select Nexadata Settings.
Ensure you are on the Edit section in the left navigation.
Check the Enable Zero Data Retention checkbox.
Click Save.
The Enable Zero Data Retention checkbox in Nexadata Settings, with helper text confirming that no AI prompts or metadata will be retained in the platform
Notes:
The setting applies to all users within the organization immediately upon saving.
Enabling ZDR mode disables prompt history and any features that depend on stored prompt content or metadata. Confirm with your team that these features are not required before enabling this setting.
